Deep cleaning

Deep cleaning granite involves moving beyond daily wiping to address embedded grime, soap scum, and stubborn stains. Because granite is porous, it requires pH-neutral cleaners and specialized techniques to lift debris without etching the stone or stripping its protective sealer.

 

 

The Deep Cleaning Protocol

For a thorough refresh (recommended every 3–6 months), follow these steps:

  1. Clear & Dust: Remove all items and wipe away loose debris with a dry microfiber cloth.

     

     

  2. Concentrated Wash: Use a specialized Granite Cleaner or a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and water. Apply and let it sit for 3–5 minutes to break down oils.

     

     

  3. Mechanical Scrub: For textured granite or grout lines, use an Electric Spin Scrubber. The rotating heads provide the “elbow grease” needed for deep-set dirt without scratching the surface.

  4. Rinse & Buff: Rinse with clear water and immediately buff dry with a clean microfiber cloth to prevent streaks and water spots.

     

     

Tackling Tough Stains

If standard deep cleaning doesn’t work, you may need a poultice or a targeted stain remover:

  • Oil-Based Stains: Apply a paste of baking soda and water. Cover with plastic wrap and let it sit for 24 hours to “pull” the oil out.

     

     

  • Hard Water/Soap Scum: Use a Rapid Action Stain Remover specifically labeled safe for natural stone. Avoid vinegar or “CLR” unless they are explicitly stone-safe.

     

     

  • Water Spots: Lightly buff the dry surface with 0000 grit steel wool in circular motions to restore the shine.
