Floor Polishing

Floor polishing is a multi-step mechanical process that restores the natural luster of your granite while removing surface scratches, dullness, and etched marks. Unlike topical waxes that sit on top, professional polishing involves grinding the stone’s surface with diamond-impregnated pads to achieve a permanent, mirror-like shine.

The Floor Polishing Process

  1. Deep Cleaning: Removing all topical dirt and old wax build-up using a pH-neutral stone cleaner.

  2. Lippage Removal (Grinding): For uneven tiles, a heavy-duty floor machine with low-grit diamond pads is used to flatten the floor.

  3. Honing: Progressively finer grits (100 to 400) are used to remove scratches and create a smooth, matte finish.

  4. Polishing: High-grit pads (800 to 3,000+) are used to bring out the depth of color and high-gloss reflection.

  5. Sealing: Once polished, the stone’s pores are open. A penetrating sealer must be applied to protect against future staining.

Recommended Equipment & Maintenance Kits

To maintain a high-gloss finish or perform a professional-grade restoration, these tools and solutions are industry standards:

  • For Professional Restoration: The Makita Stone Polisher is a specialized wet-polishing tool with variable speed control. It is designed to be used with Diamond Polishing Pads, which come in a full range of grits from coarse grinding to final buffing.

  • For Daily Shine: Regular use of a Daily Cleaner & Sealer helps maintain the polish by reinforcing the protective barrier every time you clean.

  • For Grout & Deep Grime: If your polished floors have dirty grout lines, an Electric Spin Scrubber can lift deep-seated dirt without the need for harsh, acidic chemicals that could dull the granite’s shine.
